Everyone is asked to bring side dishes and desserts and your own chair. For more information please call Lydia Webster at 575-673-2467 or Rose Mackey at 575-673-2982.
Please come and help make this celebration a time to remember. We want to celebrate the spirit of cooperation and community that was so much a part of times gone by. Solano has such an interesting history. It began in 1907 with the coming of the railroad from Dawson coal mines. It grew until it had 4 stored, 4 saloons, 1 dry goods store, 2 blacksmith shops, 2 lumber yards, 2 hotels and one newspaper; The Solano Herald.
In 1912 the community decided they needed a church so the community worked together and hauled rock in wagon loads while the women brought lunches in wash tubs to the site. Everyone worked together to build and donated what it took to accomplish the task. In 1962 the Solano Church celebrated its 50th year. In 1982, it was still standing but really in need of repairs. The Solano Homemakers Club renovated the church in fond memory of their departed parents and loved ones. They asked for donations to help preserve this historic land mark, and once again the people gave their time and money to keep the little rock church. From 2001 to 2007 a local pastor began holding church services on Sundays and Bible studies on Wednesdays. Electricity and gas were again connected and used. The little rock church was happy once again.
